Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto appears to have a choice of two Premier League clubs this summer – West Ham United and Newcastle.

The Japan international has been linked with The Magpies for a number of months but Bild claims that West Ham have suddenly joined Rafa Benitez’s side in the race. Fortunately, it seems that Bundesliga outfit Mainz are willing to sell considering that Muto has just one year left on his contract.

The 26-year-old was not the most prolific striker during his three seasons in Germany, notching 20 goals in 66 games. But if he wants to improve on that one-in-three record, he should choose West Ham over Newcastle.

After all, The Magpies are lacking a little sprinkling of creativity in attack. Their success last season was built on hard-work, team ethic and a usually solid defence. But as the likes of Joselu and Dwight Gayle will tell you, being a lone striker for Benitez’s side is not often the most fun of assingments.

But should Muto go to West Ham instead, he will be playing under a manager in Manuel Pellegrini who is more purist than pragmatic.

Furthermore, The Hammers have recently sealed the signings of both Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson, two hugely gifted wingers who should create chances aplenty for whoever gets the nod up top.

If Muto wants regular ammunition and attractive, attacking football, West Ham beat Newcastle hands down right now.
