Aleksandar Mitrovic has been fantastic since leaving Newcastle United for a loan spell at Championship flyers Fulham.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has not waited around to show Rafa Benitez what he can do since Newcastle United farmed the striker out on loan to Fulham in the January transfer window.
The Serbian has been simply outstanding for the Cottagers and, after hitting a double in the 3-0 win against Sheffield United in midweek, now has five goals in his last four games and is inspiring Fulham’s charge up the Championship table.
But this prolific form, which shows why Newcastle paid £13 million to sign him from Anderlecht back in 2015, does not appear likely to earn him a second chance on Tyneside.
Despite Newcastle scoring less than a goal a game on average this season, The Magpies will still aim to sell Mitrovic in the summer – but have raised their asking price to £20 million, according to The Chronicle.
Now this could see him fall outside of Fulham’s budget, even if they are promoted to the Premier League this season with all the riches that entails.
Fulham’s record signing, after all, remains Kostas Mitroglu and that he cost almost half as much as Mitrovic would, so there may be a concern that Newcastle might end up pricing themselves out of a Mitrovic sale once again.
The Chronicle claims that no Premier League side were willing to pay more than £10 million for the 23-year-old in January with Newcastle wanting £15 million, per The Sun. This is largely why they were forced to let him leave only on a loan deal.
And even if Mitrovic continues to fire for Fulham, £20 million could prove a little steep for a player who has never really proven himself in the Premier League.
