Aston Villa signed Jonathan Kodjia from Championship rivals Bristol City in 2016 and now Bobby Reid is a man in demand.
Aston Villa might have lost their last two Championship fixtures, but they are in with an excellent chance of promotion this season.
Villa are fourth in the table and, as it stands, look almost certain for a place in the play-offs by the time May rolls around. But imagine where they would be if their £15 million record signing Jonathan Kodjia had not been reduced to just seven league starts through injury.
Villa might still be having a good campaign but they have missed last season’s 19-goal top scorer with neither Scott Hogan nor Keinan Davis ever really looking up to the standard of stepping into his boots.
So regardless of what division Villa find themselves in next season, Steve Bruce should know that he needs new faces in attack. And with Kodjia proving to be a huge hit, and living up to that one-time Championship record price-tag, perhaps Villa should be tempted to repeat the trick in the summer.
After all, the Bristol Post points out that Bobby Reid is a man in demand. The Bristol-born 25-year-old had only scored seven league goals in his entire career before the start of this season but has a remarkable 17 to his name in 2017/18, making him the second tier’s joint top scorer.
With Bristol City seemingly set to miss out on the play-offs, however, they will face a big challenge holding on to Reid and, if Villa are promoted, they should consider devoting some of their budget to a player who dreams of playing in the Premier League.
After all, the last time Villa spent big on a Bristol City striker it worked out quite well.
