The 38-year-old has been Rangers’ signing of the season, though that’s not exactly much of an accolade.
Clint Hill stands as a pillar of consistency amid the chaos at Rangers. He may have only arrived at Ibrox last summer but it almost feels as if the 38-year-old has spent the entirety of his career in the instantly recognisable royal blue, the Daily Record reports.
A leader off the pitch and a reliable performer on it, Hill has answered any question marks about his advancing years in the only way he knows how, by throwing his body on the line and doing everything it takes to win.
It is that sort of character that has Neil Warnock, his former boss at both Crystal Palace and QPR, singing his praises from the rooftops.
“He’s an absolute dream to have in the dressing room – and as a person as well. He’s one of the best pros I’ve ever dealt with in the game,” Warnock told the Daily Record.
“He’s a winner, he doesn’t like having a single player in his team who doesn’t give everything for the cause.
“He’s a manager’s dream, a seven or eight out of 10 every week. He’ll die for the cause if he has to.
“It tells you everything about him that at 38 he’s now playing for a club like Rangers.”
Warnock admitted that he was subjected to ‘pelters’ from QPR fans after bringing the old-fashioned centre-back to Loftus Road but, after he helped them pick up eight clean sheets in his first nine games, the doubters could consider themselves emphatically silenced.
And Hill had to endure his fair share of questions when arriving at Rangers too although, as Warnock can attest, his influence stems far beyond what we see on the pitch.
His contract is up at the end of the season but it surely won’t take new manager Pedro Caixinha long to realise that the veteran defender could play a major part is easing the transition from one regime to the next.
