Spurs are hoping to raid Serie A challengers Napoli for central midfielder Amadou Diawara – and Maurizio Sarri’s side are closing in on his replacement.
It will not have escaped Tottenham Hotspur’s attention that Amadou Diawara did not get off the bench as Napoli dropped points for the second week running in a thrilling Serie A title race that appears to be swinging Juventus’ way.
Maurizio Sarri’s free-flowing side were restricted to a 0-0 draw by a spirited Inter Milan at the San Siro on Sunday night and the 20-year-old Diawara, not for the first time this season, was nowhere to be seen.
The player that Spurs are very keen on and could be willing to pay £33 million for, as reported by Calcio Napoli 24, has made just 15 Serie A appearances all season – and just three of those have come from the start.
It is understood that Sampdoria’s dynamic Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira, who has been tipped to replace Diawara at the Stadio San Paolo, has accepted a five-year contract from the Serie A title challengers.
Once Napoli trigger his £23 million release clause, which they have to do before July 15th, Torreira is expected to make the move to the south of Italy – which comes as very good news for Spurs as it is has been claimed that they will have to sacrifice one midfielder to bring another one in.
