Elmohamady played under Bruce at Aston Villa, Hull City and Sunderland but is a reunion on the cards in the Premier League with Newcastle United?

Ahmed Elmohamady’s career in English football has been linked inextricably with Steve Bruce.

Bruce was the Sunderland manager when a little-known Egyptian arrived in English football almost a decade ago, joining the Black Cats for £2 million, as reported by The Mail.

Bruce was the Hull City manager when the versatile right-back swapped Sunderland for Humberside in 2012. And guess who was at the helm of Aston Villa when the former European champions snapped up Elmohamady, now a veteran of 91 international caps, two summer’s ago?

So what are the chances of yet another reunion at St James’ Park?

His new club, Newcastle United, could certainly do with another option on the right hand side of their defence after all. Neither DeAndre Yedlin nor Javi Manquillo impressed consistently enough during the reign of Rafa Benitez.

With Aston Villa bringing in Caen’s Frederic Guilbert, and with manager Dean Smith hinting to a new-look three-man backline which would reduce the need for a natural full-back, Elmohamady might just be available for transfer once again.

And Newcastle fans are confident they know where the 31-year-old will be playing next season.
