The bookmakers believe Scottish Premiership giants Rangers could lure Preston North End boss Alex Neil to Ibrox.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun in May of last year, Alex Neil said he had no doubts that he has the talent to manage one of the Old Firm giants.

Neil is a manager who knows the Scottish game well. He took Hamilton Academical to the top flight in 2014 and guided them to a first victory over Celtic in 76 years.

He also earned promotion with Norwich City a year later, thrilling the Carrow Road supporters with his brand of free-flowing passing football. And, since joining Preston North End in the summer, Neil has turned one of the Championship’s more unfashionable clubs into an outside bet for the play-offs.

But despite all this, it seems Neil would be a very unpopular appointment at Ibrox.

The former Barnsley and Mansfield player is just 36 and some supporters want a tougher, more experienced manager on the back of that 4-0 thrashing against Celtic in the Scottish Cup which cast doubt on Murty’s leadership skills.
