Beaten Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur are expected to lose Fernando Llorente and Michel Vorm this summer.
Danny Murphy believes Tottenham Hotspur will hardly be worse of if, or when, Fernando Llorente and Michel Vorm leave the club this summer, while speaking to Max Rushden on talkSPORT (10:00am).
Spurs once again ended a promising season without a trophy to show for their efforts as the still pot-less Mauricio Pochettino suffered a gut-wrenching 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in Saturday’s Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Pochettino and co now face a challenge hanging onto some of their star players with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, who has a £25 million release clause in his contract, likely to attract plenty of interest in the coming months.
Two players who do look certain to leave, however, are target man Llorente and goalkeeper Vorm, although Murphy believes they won’t be missed.
The former England international, however, has warned Spurs about letting players contracts run down as North London rivals Arsenal mourn the departure of Aaron Ramsey.
“Llorente and Vorm are up at the end of the season, it’s not the end of the world, but next season you shouldn’t be letting players get to a year left like Arsenal, you know how that’s gone,” Murphy said.
“Eriksen, Alderweireld, Vertonghen. £25m for Alderweireld, he’ll probably go. Eriksen and Vertonghen have got a year left. (Danny) Rose has got two, (Moussa) Sissoko’s got two, (Victor) Wanyama’s got two.”
Few at Tottenham will be disappointed to see Vorm go but Llorente perhaps deserves another one-year deal after he played a major role to help the club reach the Champions League final. The 34-year-old, who scored eight goals in all competitions, made decisive contributions against both Manchester City and Ajax.
