Yannick Bolasie is being linked with a shock return to Everton from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
A foolish punt driven by nostalgia or an absolute masterstroke? Crystal Palace have been tipped to bring Yannick Bolasie back to Selhurst Park before the transfer window shuts and the fans seem to be divided right down the middle.
On his day, Bolasie was one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League a few years ago; an old-school street footballer capable of getting the fans on their feet and Selhurst Park rocking.
On the other, Palace arguably have better these days in Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend and there are superior options out there.
Some Eagles fans, interestingly, would love to see Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck arrive, believing that would be a sign of progress whereas re-signing Bolasie would represent a step back.
No wonder reports in the Mail stating that Bolasie is open to a return to the capital club have been met with such a divided response.
In truth, the DR Congo international has not got anywhere near to justifying the £28 million Everton paid for him in 2016, although a serious ligament injury is the main factor in his failure at Goodison Park.
And, at 29, would it really make sense for Palace to sign a player who relies on speed yet spent over a year on the side-lines recently?
