Richard Tait has been excellent in the Scottish Premiership for Motherwell – but could he replace Mikael Lustig at Celtic?

Celtic have just a few weeks to decide who they want to replace Mikael Lustig at Parkhead.
It is no secret that Brendan Rodgers has been looking for a right-back capable of succeeding the 32-year-old Swede when his contract expires at the end of this season. The Sun claimed that Iran international Milad Mohammadi is a target while The Express has put Swansea City’s swashbuckling Welshman Connor Roberts in the frame.
But should Celtic look closer to home? On the evidence of last season, if not this, Motherwell’s Richard Tait perhaps deserves the chance to prove he can step up with the Scottish Premiership champions.
The 28-year-old was arguably Motherwell’s star performer in 2017/18 and ended the season with a hugely impressive nine assists. Clearly, former Grimsby Town ace Tait is a player with impressive end product.

And he’s versatile too, capable of playing on the left and the right. With Emilio Izaguirre out of contract next summer, Tait could perhaps provide back-up for Kieran Tierney while giving Brendan Rodgers an option on the opposite flank too.
This is without mentioning the fact that, unlike Mohammadi and Roberts, he is proven in the top tier of Scottish football.
With Celtic scouring the market for a new right-back, Tait is someone who deserves to be considered.
