Gboly Ariyibi has not made a single Championship appearance in two years as a Nottingham Forest player. Now he will be hoping to shine in Scotland.

Gboly Ariyibi’s miserable spell at Nottingham Forest is over…for now, at least.

The 23-year-old winger has not made a single Championship appearance since moving to the City Ground from Chesterfield two years ago and has not been part of a single match day squad across the 2018/19 campaign.

As a result, Forest fans will not be surprised to learn that Ariyibi has departed on loan, joining Scottish Premiership side Motherwell until the end of the season.

But, while news of the fleet-footed American will not raise many eyebrows in the East Midlands, it seems Ariyibi has been welcomed with open arms at his new club.

“We’ve been tracking the player for quite some time and I’m really pleased to get this agreed and over the line,” Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson, who also welcomed Ross McCormack to Fir Park from Aston Villa, told the club’s official website.

“He’s a fast-footed, speedy forward player who can plays on either flank or through the middle. He fits the type of profile we were looking for and will hopefully provide a different dimension in the forward areas.”

A short-term switch north of the border represents a fine opportunity for Ariyibi to get his career back on track, having failed to make an impression during similar loan spells at MK Dons and Northampton Town in League One last season.

With Forest spending big in the transfer market under Evangelos Marinakis, it seems unlikely that Ariyibi will ever make his league debut in the famous red shirt.
