Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have suddenly made a move for Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson with Craig Gordon injured.

Celtic went into the January transfer window wanting a centre-half, a winger and a new number ten.

With Marvin Compper, Lewis Morgan and Charly Musonda in the bag, Brendan Rodgers can afford to toast a job well done. But Craig Gordon (below) has now been ruled out for three months, meaning Celtic cannot afford to relax with Dorus de Vries suddenly the only senior goalkeeper on their books.

And according to the Daily Record, the Hoops have made a late move to lure Trevor Carson away from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell. The 29-year-old shot-stopper has been in fine form this season and was heavily praised by Rodgers earlier in the year.

But with Celtic offering as little as £200,000, they seem unlikely to get their man.

The Daily Record add that Motherwell are unwilling to sell Carson with so little time to sign a replacement. And, even if they were open to offers, they would demand far, far more than the miserly £200,000 put on the table by Scotland’s richest club.

There has been plenty of criticism levelled at Rangers of late for making derisory bids in an apparent attempt to unsettle their rivals’ key players, in the eyes of Kris Boyd anyway as reported by the Scotsman.

But Motherwell fans have been quick to point that Celtic can, and should, be willing to offer much more for a goalkeeper who could be the difference between Steve Robinson’s side finishing in the top half or slipping into a relegation battle.
