Gboly Ariyibi has not made a Championship appearance in two years at Nottingham Forest but will he return to the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell?
Motherwell’s chief executive Alan Burrows has confirmed on Twitter that the club are in contract with Nottingham Forest about extending Gboly Ariyibi’s stay at Fir Park.
A £500,000 signing from Chesterfield in January 2017, Ariyibi quickly became the forgotten man of Nottingham Forest and is yet to make his debut for the Championship giants two and a half years after moving to the City Ground.
The one-time Leeds United youngster instead spent time out on loan at MK Dons and Northampton before joining Motherwell on a short-term deal five months ago.
Ariyibi was a big hit in the Scottish Premiership, scoring twice in 18 games, and Well manager Stephen Robinson has already admitted that he would love to work with the 23-year-old again.
And Burrows has now made it clear that he shares Robinson’s view.
Ariyibi, who has represented the USA at U23 level, appears to have no future whatsoever at Nottingham Forest and it would be no surprise if he was sold this summer with Martin O’Neill looking to bring in additions from elsewhere.
And with Motherwell selling David Turnbull to Celtic, they should have some money to invest in Ariyibi.
