Leeds United and Sunderland are reportedly interested in luring Jake Hastie to the Championship or League One from Motherwell.
Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson has warned coveted winger Jake Hastie against a move to England amid links with Leeds United and Sunderland, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
The 19-year-old has been a revelation since returning to Fir Park from a loan spell at Alloa Athletic last month, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw with Livingston before scoring a stunning long-range goal against St Mirren.
The Daily Record claims that scouts from Leeds United and Sunderland were in attendance as Hastie fired that 25-yard thunderbolt into St Mirren’s net with the youngster’s contract due to expire at the end of this season.
But, speaking to the Scottish Sun, Robinson has admitted that he’s desperate to keep Hastie at Motherwell before pointing out that the grass is not always greener elsewhere.
“He’s playing regular first-team football, and I’d sit in front of any parent and tell them if their boy goes to England they will be playing Under-23 football, and will maybe lose their way,” he said.
“I’m a big advocate of playing early and playing young, and I’m confident Jake will re-sign.”
Robinson adds that Motherwell would be due a substantial compensation fee if Hastie does leave this summer but they would obviously rather one of the biggest talents in Scottish football stayed and honed his trade at Fir Park.
Although a move to Leeds or Sunderland could turn his head, given that Marcelo Bielsa and Jack Ross are coaches who have an excellent record when it comes to developing young talent.
