Andy Halliday’s future at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers seemed in doubt with Steven Gerrard reportedly allowing him to leave.

Does Andy Halliday have a future at Rangers after all?

The Mail reported over a week ago that new manager Steven Gerrard had told Halliday and fellow midfielder Jason Holt that they had no future at Ibrox. So the former looked to have played his final game for the club, which came as no surprise.

Halliday has long been out of favour at Rangers, spending time on loan at Azerbaijani outfit FK Gabala last season and only managing five appearances back in Scotland once his temporary stay in eastern Europe came to an end.

With Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield moving to Glasgow from Liverpool and Burnley respectively, it seemed Halliday would only fall further down the pecking order. Hence the reports saying he was destined to leave.

But will he? Speaking to the club’s official website during their pre-season training camp in Spain, the 26-year-old hardly sounded like a man about to bid farewell.

“It is an honour to work with (Gerrard),” Halliday said. “Seven players have come in and we are seeing the quality they have brought to the squad already.

“It is certainly a positive start, but enough talking has been done and it’s about time we walk the walk now.”

The Scottish Sun states that Halliday is using the training camp to try to secure a future at Rangers. And, who knows, perhaps he is on track to winning around his new boss.
