Ian Wright has called out David Moyes following West Ham United’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton and also slammed the likes of Nayef Aguerd for their ‘mistakes’ which could result in their relegation to the Championship.
It wasn’t so long ago that January signing Danny Ings was netting a brace as West Ham produced their best performance of the season against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.
But fast forward to the present and, once again, it’s all doom and gloom in East London because they were taken apart by Roberto de Zerbi’s free-scoring, Brighton, at the weekend.

It wasn’t so long ago that the Hammers were securing back-to-back European finishes, but after spending big during the summer transfer window, they have gone backwards.
What doesn’t help Moyes’ cause is the sleepwalking style of play and the fact that they did splash the cash on players that were supposed to improve on what they do with the ball.
One thing is for sure, they are deep in the relegation fight and the pressure on Moyes continues to rise, with Wright calling out a few people, as he told Premier League Productions (06/03/23 at 2:55 pm).
“You worry for Moyes because beating Forest so convincingly, then playing like they did against Man United and losing so convincingly (against Brighton),” said Wright.
“As a manager, I am scratching my head. What’s going on? They have to have a meeting. You can’t go bam, bam, bam like that at this stage of the season. What is happening with these mistakes? There is nothing a manager can do about players making mistakes. But when mistakes are happening continuously and in West Ham’s games. Defending and individual mistakes. That can be eradicated because that’s on you.
“You look at one of the goals. I think Ben Johnson is at the back. For a defender to be at the back post and not be aware of what’s around him is a massive mistake and something that can be fixed, easily. Take the mistakes out and say ‘look at the mistakes we are making. We are losing games because of this’. You can’t be in a meeting and just hammer people. You have to say ‘what’s happening? Why are you making these mistakes?’.
“Aguerd, you look at the mistakes he is making. They have to do more work on the training ground with him to make him more aware of what’s going on because their mistakes are going to cost them their position in this league. They are making too many.”

CAN WEST HAM FIND LIFE IN EUROPE?
West Ham will travel to Cyprus to take on AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League and Moyes will be hoping it provides them with some much-needed on-field confidence.
What won’t help Moyes is a defeat because the team and manager will be verbally eaten alive by the fans ahead of their weekend fixture against Aston Villa.
It could be argued that the Sunday game is more important because they need the points, especially with a trip to Manchester City awaiting them next week.
