Jack Ross has lead St Mirren to the Scottish Championship title – but is he ready for a go at Premiership giants Rangers?

Graeme Murty, Manager of Rangers reacts during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on March 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Jack Ross is far from one of the frontrunners to take over at Rangers if current manager Graeme Murty gets the chop at the end of this season.

As stated by Sky Bet, the likes of Frank de Boer, Alex Neil, Glenn Hoddle and Steve Clarke (below) are all in the running – but the highly-rated St Mirren boss is a distant 20/1.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

But that does not mean he should not be considered should Rangers decide that Murty is not the man to take them forward.

41-year-old Ross is one of the brightest minds in Scottish football and the world is his oyster. In only his second managerial post at St Mirren, he guided The Buddies to safety in the second tier last season before leading them to the top of the Championship one year later.

12 points clear of second placed Livingston, St Mirren have already secured promotion to the top flight and the league title to boot.

But is Ross, who rejected Barnsley in February to stay and complete the job at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, ready for a club the size of Rangers?

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It seems the fans think the former Falkirk and Hamilton defender might be ready for the Ibrox hotseat one day – but not just yet perhaps.
