League Two Cheltenham Town look set to lose Mo Eisa this summer but could he join Sunderland?

Mo Eisa made the step up to Football League level look easy.

The Sudan-born striker got his big break at Cheltenham Town last summer after a move from Greenwich Borough and took his chance in style. Overall, Eisa plundered 25 goals in 50 games for The Robins and was even nominated for the League Two Player of the Year award.

And Eisa could be about to take another step forward this summer.

According to Gloucester Live, Leeds United scouted the 23-year-old during Cheltenham’s clash with Crewe Alexandra last week, the final game of the 2017/18 League Two season.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

And the same publication is now reporting that Championship rivals Brentford are also big fans of Eisa, who is understood to be valued at around £1.5 million by Cheltenham.

But a number of League One sides, including Portsmouth and Rotherham United are understood to be keen. And so should Sunderland.

The Black Cats are heading into the third tier with the exciting yet unproven duo Josh Maja and Joel Asoro (below) the closest thing they have to a proven striker. Unfortunately, there are no certainties as to how much money Sunderland will have to spend this summer, as Stewart Donald prepares to take over the Wearside club.

So the fact that Eisa will cost just £1.5 million should make him a viable option. In today’s market, that is a reasonable fee for a player who has scored prolifically in the fourth tier and Sunderland need young, hungry and rising talents like him to turn this club around.

Eisa is yet to prove that he can hit the net above League Two level – but Sunderland could do worse than to give him a chance to prove himself.
