Rangers offered Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen £300,000 for Kenny McLean but the midfielder will join Championship side Norwich City instead.

Rangers fans have a right to be frustrated with summer target Kenny McLean to join Norwich City and not just because the Ibrox club appeared not to renew their interest in one of the best midfielders in Scottish football.
According to The Daily Mail, Norwich are set to land the 25-year-old Aberdeen ace on a contract until 2021. It is understood that the Canaries have beaten off competition from a number of clubs to get their man, and will pay as little as £150,000 before loaning McLean back to Pittodrie for the rest of the season.

Needless to say, £150,000 is a snip in today’s market, even though the fee was tempered by the fact that McLean will be out of contract in the summer. Norwich sold Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield Town for £14 million earlier this month after all.
But why on earth did Rangers not go all out to sign McLean this month? Particularly as they were willing to pay twice as much for him just a few months ago.

The Daily Record stated that Rangers made a bid of £300,000 for the Scotland international during the summer but were turned down as Aberdeen wanted more for their key man. Yet, fast forward to January and the Dons are willing to sell for half the price that Rangers put on the table.
But whether Rangers even need McLean any more is up for debate. The addition of Sean Goss on loan from QPR, added to summer signings Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack and the super form of Josh Windass, means Gers boss Graeme Murty has options to pick from.
