Leeds United could do with one more centre-back, while Championship competitors Bristol City have landed Tomas Kalas on loan from Premier League outfit Chelsea.

Leeds United are unbeaten after four games and sit pretty at the top of the Championship. But the tense 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Tuesday night shined a light on the lack of defensive depth at Marcelo Bielsa’s disposal.
Pontus Jansson was already missing the game through injury and a problem suffered by captain Liam Cooper in the warm up meant that 18-year-old Jamie Shackleton was forced to start at right-back with Luke Ayling shuffling across to the centre.
So with a week left in the transfer window, and 42 Championship games to go, Leeds could do with one more defender in their ranks just to ensure that they are better placed to deal with injuries and suspensions going forward.
But to the frustration of some fans, their Championship rivals are busy bringing in centre-backs while everything is quiet at Elland Road.

On Wednesday, Bristol City sealed the signing of Tomas Kalas from Chelsea on a season-long loan. The Czech international is something of a good omen: he has won promotion in two of the last three seasons during spells at Middlesbrough and Fulham.
Kalas would have been an excellent addition to Leeds’ squad, particularly with fellow Chelsea youngsters Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman already in West Yorkshire. And some Leeds fans are already regretting the club’s failure to make a move.
