Millwall fans were encouraged by the club’s business in January when they managed to sign Jason Shackell on loan from Derby County.

Shackell’s spell at Millwall coincided with the team’s best of run of form in the Championship for years as Neil Harris’ unheralded side put together a surprise promotion push.

For most of it, Shackell was a spectator, featuring as a substitute and helping the Lions close out games.

Shackell though is now a free agent, with Derby deciding to release the centre-back.

Through his time at the south London club, Shackell became a bit of a lucky charm for Millwall.

He played eight games for Millwall, and was on the winning side for all eight of them.

Shackell could not claim a huge role in this, as his cumulative minutes played across these matches added up to just 26.

Millwall found him useful late in games, with Neil Harris feeling he was good enough to throw out there at decisive stages.

Shackell is 34, and Millwall could benefit from his experience next season on a short term deal.

This season Harris had no need to change a winning team, so Shackell found it tough to break into the side.

As a free agent he is very much worth Millwall taking a second look at, and hoping he can prove as ‘lucky’ for them in 2018/19.
