Is Steve Bruce going to be denied his dream job at Newcastle United after all? Ex-Lyon coach Genesio is reportedly heading to the Premier League.

It seemed only a matter of time before Steve Bruce’s dream became a reality and the former Sunderland boss became the new manager of Newcastle United.
But maybe, just maybe, there is one last twist in a wholly unsatisfactory and rather nauseating story which has Magpies fans, once again, worrying for their club’s long and short term future.
According to French publication Le Progres, the takeover of this proud old club is back on the cards.
And the unnamed Dubai businessmen who will apparently bring Mike Ashley’s reign of terror to an overdue end apparently wants Bruno Genesio to replace Rafael Benitez, rather than the 58-year-old clogger that is Brucey.

Now, there’s a lot to unpack here. Talk on the takeover front has grown very cold in the last few weeks after all and, with Bruce and his assistants walking away from Sheffield Wednesday just 24 hours earlier, this would be a twist of Shyamalan proportions.
For Bruce, he would see less dead people, more jubilant Geordies mocking him on social media. If you hadn’t grasp the prevailing viewpoint, a coach who looked a little out of his depth in the modern game a decade ago isn’t exactly a popular appointment, regardless of his Sunderland connections.
Genesio, in contrast, is a classy, forward-thinking manager – albeit one just six years younger than Bruce. His Lyon team played some wonderful football in France while Memphis Depay, Nabil Fekir and Ferland Mendy all shining under a coach renowned for his attractive style of play.
So the fans can only dream for now.
