Divock Origi made the difference in Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga relegation play-off clash – but will he return to the Premier League and Liverpool?

If Divock Origi is hoping for a future at Liverpool, he will be praying that Jurgen Klopp tuned in to the Bundesliga relegation play-off on Thursday night.
The Belgian striker has been a massive disappointment since he joined Wolfsburg on loan last summer but stepped up when it mattered most in the first-leg of the crunch clash against second tier Holstein Kiel.

Origi netted the opener with a simple tap in early on before clinching a vital 3-1 win with a quite magnificent assist, rouletting past one challenge, skipping past another and then setting up Yunus Malli with a sublime flicked pass.
This was the sort of performance reminiscent of the final few months of Origi’s 2015/16 season, in which he emerged as one of the key players as Klopp’s Liverpool reached the Europa League final.
Origi, who joined Liverpool from Lille back in 2014 for £10 million, is clearly a striker with plenty of talent and potential but he simply hasn’t shown that consistently enough throughout his short career. A tally of six goals in 31 Bundesliga games for Wolfsburg reflects this.

But there is a space in Liverpool’s squad for a strong, athletic centre-forward and, at just 23, Origi has plenty of time on his side. And the Anfield faithful clearly believes he deserves a second chance.
