Boro were reportedly hoping to send £6m striker Gestede to Championship rivals Millwall during the January transfer window.

It’s fair to say deadline day did not go to plan for Middlesbrough.
According to the Northern Echo, Boro failed in moves to sign Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki or the West Brom-bound Jacob Murphy while an ambitious attempt to bring Adama Traore back to the Riverside from Wolves also fell flat on its face.
And, to make matters worse, Rudy Gestede is now destined to spend the next few months sitting on the bench, collecting a handsome weekly wage for very little.

It was expected that Gestede would bid farewell on the final day of the January transfer window but, according to Sky Sports, the giant striker rejected a loan move to Millwall – having previously turned down the chance to sign for Ipswich Town.
A £6 million signing from Aston Villa in 2017, Gestede has been little other than an expensive flop with just four goals in 40 Championship games for Tony Pulis’ side. No wonder Boro wanted rid, according to the Teesside Gazette.
And it seems that the news that he’s staying hasn’t gone down all too well.
