Jurgen Klopp handed Adam Lallana his fourth Premier League start of the season as Liverpool beat Burnley 4-2 at Anfield.
Michael Owen believes Adam Lallana could be like a new signing for Liverpool after the England international’s impressive performance against Burnley on Sunday, while speaking on BT Sport.
Eyebrows were raised when the 30-year-old was handed only his fourth Premier League start of the season at the weekend, Lallana chosen ahead of Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita as Sean Dyche’s Clarets made the trip to Merseyside.
But Klopp’s risk reaped plenty of rewards with Lallana providing a class and creativity that Liverpool’s midfield has been badly missing during a worrying run of draws.
The former Southampton captain was influential as the Reds beat Burnley 4-2 at Anfield, inadvertently setting up Sadio Mane’s opener with a fine block that summed up his commendable work ethic.
“What a result to have him back and firing,” Liverpool legend Owen told BT Sport (10 March, 12:00pm) after the game.
“You were just worrying about his form but his week in training was by all accounts fantastic.
“It’s like a new signing getting someone of that quality back in there.”
Lallana certainly offers something different. His subtlety and cutting edge stands out in a midfield characterised by its energy and dynamism rather than an ability to carve apart deep-lying defences.
