Iranian World Cup star Milad Mohammadi is reportedly a January target for Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Mikael Lustig is surely on his last legs at Celtic.
The Swede has been an excellent servant for The Hoops over the last six years but, at the age of 31, his best days are clearly behind him. Lustig has been left exposed time and time again this season against decent opposition and he looked like Celtic’s weak link once more against RB Leipzig on Thursday night.
The former Rosenborg man looked like an accident waiting to happen in the face of Leipzig’s trademark high press and was nowhere to be seen as Jean-Kevin Augustin scored an equaliser, although he was bailed out by Odsonne Edouard’s winner just a minute later.
So, with Lustig’s contract due to expire at the end of this season and no signs of an extension just yet, it is no wonder why Celtic appear to be eyeing long-term successors.
The Scottish Sun have claimed that Milad Mohammadi, the Iranian full-back who impressed at the World Cup, is once again on Celtic’s radar after Brendan Rodgers expressed an interest in signing him over the summer.
Energetic and versatile enough to play on either flank, 25-year-old Mohamaddi would be a younger option than the heavy-legged Lustig. And, like the Scandinavian, his contract at Russian outfit Akhmat Grozny is due to expire in the summer, meaning he could be available on the cheap in January.
The Scottish Sun adds that Mohammadi is aware of Celtic’s interest and keen on a move to Britain – and his signing looks even more essential after Lustig’s latest below-par display.
