Michael Dawson has certainly stoked the fire ahead of Sunday’s North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have largely dominated the fixture during the Premier League era, but Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs have made great strides since he took over in 2014, finishing above their bitter rivals in each of the last two seasons.

Speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (30 November, 9:00am), former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has stopped short of saying that his old employers are the favourites heading into the clash. But he believes they have overtaken Arsenal as the top dogs of North London.

“I think you look at how Spurs are playing at the moment, beating Chelsea last week (3-1 at Wembley). They were so comfortable. They’re a team that teams are scared of playing,” said the 35-year-old.

“I believe now that Spurs are the bigger club in North London.”

Arsenal will be desperate to reassert their dominance over their noisy neighbours in front of their own supporters and history is certainly on their side. Spurs have only ever won away at Arsenal twice in the Premier League era.

But with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son in top form, and with Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen back from injury, do not bet against a famous win for Tottenham at the home of their enemy.
