Everton will host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United at Goodison Park on Saturday with Marco Silva’s side looking for another Premier League coup.
Michael Ball has identified Manchester United captain Ashley Young as a potential weak link ahead of Everton’s Premier League clash against the Red Devils on Sunday, while speaking to the Liverpool Echo.
Manchester United are likely to have a point to prove when they make the trip to Goodison Park with the positivity that surrounded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s start to life at Old Trafford being tested by a series of disappointing results.
And there is no guarantee of three Premier League points on Merseyside, given that Everton have beaten both Arsenal and Chelsea on home turf in recent weeks.
Ball certainly believes that the Toffees should feel positive about another high-profile victory and believes exploiting the ageing Young could be their best route to success.
“Manchester United aren’t having the best season, so there’s potentially a chance of three points again this weekend,” said the former Manchester City left-back, who played for Everton between 1996 and 2001.
“In particular their full-back positions are pretty weak. Ashley Young is a modified winger playing at right-back.
“With our forwards in supposedly such good form, we should be targeting that position and you’re expecting us to have a lot of joy, especially down that flank.”
Young certainly looked every one of his 33 years against Barcelona in the Champions League recently and in-form Brazil international Bernard should be licking his lips about the prospect of taking on the former Aston Villa forward on Saturday.
Bernard was electric against Arsenal recently and his skill, speed and vision should give Everton a chance of finding a way past United goalkeeper David de Gea.
