Premier League duo Southampton and Everton reportedly went head-to-head for Danish winger Pione Sisto in 2016 before he signed for Celta Vigo.
Southampton are allegedly renewing their interest in a player they have wanted since 2016.
According to the Sun, the Saints are keen to sign Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto this summer with the La Liga club seemingly ready to listen to offers for the Danish winger. Sisto has a £36 million release clause in his contract but last season’s Europa League semi-finalists could accept offers of about half that.
It is easy to see why Southampton want Sisto, should they survive in the top flight, that is.
The Saints have lacked pace, creativity and unpredictability this season, netting a goal a game on average. Sisto, however, possesses all those attributes in abundance and would be an immediate upgrade on Nathan Redmond on the left wing.
Sisto has nine assists in La Liga in 2017/18 – only Lionel Messi has more.
But if Southampton are renewing their interest in Sisto, so should Everton. According to the Mirror, the Toffees were also keen on signing the now 23-year-old two summers ago, after he impressed in FC Midtjylland’s Europa League win over Manchester United.
And Everton, like Southampton, could do with more players to offer directness and speed on the flanks. Yannick Bolasie has struggled for rhythm since returning from injury, while Nikola Vlasic looks more at home in the centre, meaning Sisto would be an excellent addition to the squad.
