Sunderland are set to sign Scottish youngster Matthew Knox, who has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Rangers among others.

It is a pretty miserable life being a Sunderland supporter at present.
The club are bottom of the Championship, have just lost their only two senior strikers and have absolutely no funds to reinforce a poor squad. The threat of successive relegations is real indeed, with the Black Cats running short of remaining lives.
Yet in the midst of all this despair, Sunderland look to be on the verge of completing a signing that should give supporters some degree of hope.
According to the Daily Record, Livingston starlet Matthew Knox is set to put pen to paper at the Stadium of Light after starring on a week-long trial. Yes, we are aware that a little-known 18-year-old from the Scottish second tier is unlikely to save Sunderland’s Championship status.

But Knox should give Sunderland fans something to look forward to.
After all, he is no run of the mill talent but one of the most exciting young prospects in Scottish football. He has had spells at Manchester United, Rangers and Liverpool in the last 12 months, and impressed so much during a friendly game on Wednesday that Sunderland have acted quickly to make sure he does not slip through their grasp.

Knox’s father even told the Manchester Evening News in 2016 that Chelsea and Everton had expressed an interest in the starlet, who inspired Livingston to the Scottish third tier title last season.
The present may be a little unhappy at Sunderland, but Knox should give the club’s disillusioned supporters something to look forward to.
