Adama Traore has enjoyed a terrific start to life back in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring the winner at the weekend.
Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Wolverhampton Wanderers smashed their transfer record to sign Adama Traore from Middlesbrough for £18 million.
There could be no doubt about the winger’s physical attributes, his pace and power make him a fearsome opponent for any full-back. But Traore’s end product has frequently left a lot of be desired with his wasteful display against Aston Villa in last season’s play-off semi-final sticking in the memory.
The former Barcelona youngster, however, began to repay that hefty transfer fee at the London Stadium on Saturday. Racing onto a Leo Bonatini through-ball, Traore left West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell for dead before firing home a stoppage-time winner.
Understandably, Wolves’ own full-back Matt Doherty would rather play with the jet-heeled attacker than against him.
“He’s unique. You just can’t stop him. You see how many people are trying to take him down, he either gets away or gets fouled,” Doherty told the Express and Star.
“He’s one of a kind, we haven’t seen anything like him before. It’s scary.
“It certainly helps when you’ve got a player coming off the bench who can run the whole length of the pitch before anybody even gets halfway.”
Traore certainly has a skill-set that makes him stand out, even in the Premier League. If he is on form, there is barely a full-back in world football who can beat him for pace one against one.
