Championship powerhouses Leeds United have taken non-league defender Ashton Hall on trial.
Matlock Town have confirmed that young defender Ashton Hall is on trial at Leeds United.
The West Yorkshire powerhouses have been scouring non-league for talented youngsters in recent months with the likes of Sam Dalby and Ryan Edmondson arriving at Elland Road since Victor Orta was appointed the club’s director of football in 2017.
And Hall, an 18-year-old centre-back, could be the next on the list.
Matlock manager Dave Frecklinton told the club’s official website that Hall had featured for Leeds’ U18s in a friendly against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday, claiming the teenager produced an ‘excellent, outstanding’ performance on the right of a back three.
And Matlock’s official Twitter account has pointed out that Hall is just one of their talented youngsters who has caught the eye of Championship clubs of late.
It remains to be seen whether Hall will follow in the footsteps of Max Bird and Zak Brunt, who recently earned contracts at Derby County and Sheffield United respectively.
If Hall does seal a permanent move to Leeds, he could thrive under Marcelo Bielsa – a manager who is never fearful of throwing young players in at the deep end.
