Chicago Fire’s MLS right-back Matt Polster is on trial at Rangers with a potential future in the Scottish Premiership beckoning.

In a quite remarkable U-turn, it seems that Rangers are set to miss out on Andrew Gutman to none other than Old Firm neighbours Celtic.
Gutman had a trial at Rangers over the festive period and American Soccer Now claimed that he had been offered a short-term contract. Instead, however, The Atlantic are reporting that the left-back is now heading to Celtic in a surprise twist.
Fortunately for Rangers though, it seems that one American talent is on his way to Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun reported earlier in the week that Matt Polster had travelled with Rangers to their training camp with Tenerife during the Scottish winter break as the Glasgow giants continue to run the rule over the versatile right-back.
And, speaking to The Express, director of football Mark Allen has confirmed that Rangers are interested in keeping Polster at Ibrox.
“Matt is here and we are continuing to evaluate on that one,” Allen said.
“It is one where this has to be a meeting of minds for everyone, it is not one-way traffic.

“He has to look at it and say, ‘Is Rangers for him?’ and we have to say, ‘Is he for us?’. This week is just a further assessment before we make a decision.”
Polster is a right-back by trade though he can also play in midfield, meaning he would offer Steven Gerrard plenty of options should the deal happen.
In all likelihood, the Chicago Fire man would act as a back up to captain James Tavernier on the flank.
