Leeds United should seriously consider signing Danny Rose this summer.

Not the England international left-back who rose through the ranks at Elland Road before leaving for Tottenham before he had even made his Leeds debut, but the Mansfield Town striker turning heads in League Two.

Rose has 17 goals in 34 games for the Stags this season and, according to the Mail, has attracted the attention of Championship duo Millwall and Cardiff City. It is understood that Mansfield have already rejected offers from some of the biggest clubs in League One.

But surely that one-in-two goal ratio is enough for Leeds to join the race for a player who has emerged as a talismanic figure for former Whites’ boss Steve Evans at Field Mill in recent months.

After all, a striker will surely be a priority over the summer as Pierre-Michel Lasogga seems unlikely to stay in West Yorkshire on a permanent business, with his wages well out of Leeds’ price-range.

Caleb Ekuban, Pawel Cibicki and Jay-Roy Grot (below), meanwhile, have not hit the net between them in the Championship.

Rose, however, is in the form of his life in the fourth tier. And the one-time Barnsley youngster deserves his chance at a higher level, regardless of whether Mansfield manage to secure a place in League One next season.

Leeds have been linked with a number of lower league goal-scorers in the last year and Rose is surely worth a scouting mission or two.
