Leeds United are reportedly hoping to sign centre-back Danny Batth from Championship holders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Danny Batth of Wolverhampton Wanderers looks on during the pre seaon friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ajax at the Banks' Stadium on July 19, 2018 in Walsall, England.

Local lad Danny Batth has spent his entire professional career with Wolves, making over 200 appearances and captaining the side to promotion to both the Championship and the Premier League.

But Batth is a centre-back with plenty of limitations. And that is perhaps the reason why his departure will be celebrated by some sections of the Molineux faithful should it occur before Friday’s transfer deadline.

According to the Mirror (live blog, 3.57am), Leeds are hoping to sign Wolves’ long-serving skipper this week.

The Whites could do with one more centre-back with only Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson naturals in that position and Batth, an experienced pro and a leader on and off the pitch, ticks a lot of boxes. The majority of Leeds fans certainly seem to be very pleased about his potential arrival at Elland Road.

But perhaps they should take the comments of some Wolves fans as a warning. The 27-year-old was trusted to start just 15 games as Wolves cantered to the title last season and he looked like something of a weak link on occasions, particularly in that 4-1 collapse at Aston Villa.

Batth might be a loyal servant and a vocal presence but maybe he isn’t the solid centre-back Leeds fans think they’re getting.
