Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion sold Belgian World Cup star Nacer Chadli to Ligue 1 strugglers AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.

Nacer Chadli started just two Premier League games in an injury-hit final season at West Bromwich Albion.

So you have to credit the Baggies for earning £10 million from the winger when selling him to Ligue 1 giants Monaco in August, as reported by the Sun.

West Brom were obviously aided by Chadli’s impressive form at the World Cup, during which he helped Roberto Martinez’s Belgium to a third-place finish.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, the club’s new sporting and technical director Luke Dowling has lauded their ability to earn an eight-figure fee from Chadli’s sale.

“If a bid comes in and it’s right, sell,” Dowling said.

“Don’t be scared to do that and have confidence as a club that you can replace that person. From the outside looking in the Chadli situation was typical West Brom of a few years ago; brilliant.

“Take the money, the squad’s perfect, you don’t need to go and spend it straight away. A lot of clubs have got the money and panic, and they go and buy within 24 hours of the window shutting and we all know you’re not buying perhaps exactly what you want.”

West Brom certainly have not missed Chadli. Darren Moore’s side are currently the top-scoring team in the Championship with 31 goals in 12 games, with the likes of Matt Phillips, Dwight Gayle, Jay Rodriguez and Leicester City loanee Harvey Barnes in terrific form.

Chadli, meanwhile, has started just four league games for a Monaco side who are stuck in the relegation zone and have recently replaced Leonardo Jardim with Thierry Henry.
