Saidy Janko was not in Celtic’s long-term plans but it was a big surprise to see Sheffield Wednesday linked with the one-time Barnsley loanee.
It is painfully clear that a right-back is at the top of Sheffield Wednesday’s list of priorities this summer. Although it is fair to say the players so far linked with a summer switch to Hillsborough will not get supporters’ pulses racing.
According to The Sun, Carlos Carvalhal’s side remain hopeful of signing Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton despite the Scotland international making clear that he wants to remain in The Midlands.
The report claims Wednesday, who lost to Huddersfield Town on penalties in last season’s play-off semi-final, want to sign him on a free though Villa would demand £1million for his services.

Though Hutton, who enjoyed one of his most consistent seasons in claret and blue, would surely be a better option than Saidy Janko. According to HITC sources, the one-time Manchester United prospect was a target for Wednesday despite an injury-hit season on loan at Yorkshire rivals Barnsley from Celtic.
Lucky escape?
The right-back had not featured for the Scottish giants since enduring a defensive nightmare in a 2-0 Champions League qualifying defeat to Hapoel Be’er Sheva last August. Fortunately, Celtic’s first-leg aggregate lead was enough to take them through.
And, just a few days later, Janko was farmed out to Barnsley.
However he did little at Oakwell to justify being linked with Wednesday, a club with genuine Premier League ambitions. The Scottish Sun claimed he would cost £1 million.
Instead, Janko has put pen to paper on a surprising move to Ligue 1 club St Etienne. Europa League regulars, the 21-year-old certainly appears to have landed on his feet.
