Louis Moult wants Motherwell exit but has Rangers chance passed him by?

Rangers were linked with Louis Moult back in May but they have signed both Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos since.

Motherwell fans will not want to imagine life without Louis Moult. The talismanic striker has scored 36 goals over the last two seasons at Fir Park but it appears increasingly unlikely that he will be staying for a third.

Because he has made very clear that he wishes to make a step up the footballing ladder this summer.

“When I signed for Motherwell they sold the club to me by saying it’s a platform to go on and do better things,” the former Stoke City youngster told the Daily Record. “Everyone is on that mindset, working that extra bit harder and everyone pulling together – and that’s what I’ve done.

“I’d like to think they stick to their word if something does happen and it appeals to me.”

And you wonder whether interest from Rangers would have piqued his interest.

The Scottish Sun reported at the beginning of the transfer window that the Ibrox giants were interested in luring Moult to Glasgow this summer after he netted 15 goals in the Scottish Premiership for a second season running.

However, two months have passed since the first report emerged concerning Rangers’ interest. And, in that time, you wonder whether Motherwell’s reluctance to sell until their £500,000 valuation is met has scuppered his chances of moving to last season’s third placed side.

Has the boat sailed?

After all, the Gers are no longer short of strikers.

They were over reliant upon the evergreen 37-year-old Kenny Miller last season but Pedro Caixinha has responded to the issue by landing Mexican international Eduardo Herrera from Pumas UNAM and Colombian starlet Alfredo Morelos, who scored for fun in Finland with HJK Helsinki.

And with Miller inking a one-year contract extension, it appears that there is no longer room at Rangers for Moult. Motherwell’s reluctance to sell coincided with Rangers turning their attention to the foreign market.

Though whether Rangers will regret landing two players completely unproven in Britain rather than an established, Scottish Premiership goalscorer remains to be seen.
