Rafa Mir is spending the season with Las Palmas rather than play Premier League football with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rafa Mir could hardly have made a better first impression as he pulled on the Spain jersey for the first-time at any level.
The highly-rated striker came off the bench with just 15 minutes remaining during Thursday’s U21 clash with Albania in Cordoba. And, with just seconds left on the clock, he marked his debut with a goal, turning home an assist from the one-time Leeds United loanee Alfonso Pedraza.
This caps what has been a positive start to 2018/19 for Rafa Mir. The former Valencia wonderkid returned to Spain this summer, joining second tier Las Palmas on loan from Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
And his first goal for Spain came just five days after he opened his account for the Canary Island club in a 1-1 draw at Real Zaragoza.
Wolves appeared to have pulled off a major coup when they signed the 21-year-old in January for around £2 million. According to Marca, Real Madrid had been keen to lure Mir to the Bernabau from their La Liga rivals Valencia.
He struggled to justify that early hype at Molineux, however, playing just 29 minutes of football from January to May.
But a temporary return to Spain seems to be doing him good.
