Liam Kelly is playing regular football in the Scottish Premiership after ending his long association with Rangers in the summer.
Former Rangers youngster Liam Kelly has gone from strength to strength at Livingston.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper signed on the dotted line in the summer, completing a permanent transfer after helping The Lions win the Scottish Championship title during a loan spell at the Almondvale Stadium last season.
Livi have been notoriously tough to beat since returning to the top flight with Kelly, who has conceded just 19 goals in 21 league games, playing a key role in their continued success.
And, speaking to the Edinburgh News, the shot-stopper has admitted that he had few qualms about bidding farewell to Ibrox – a decision that now looks a good one.
“I wasn’t playing at all at Rangers and I’m a football player. I just want to play. It was an easy decision in that respect,” Kelly said.
“If I want to reach the highest level, I need to play games.”
Kelly had been part of Rangers’ academy since as far back as 2006 but he never played a senior game for the Glasgow giants.
And, if he had stayed at Ibrox, he might have even struggled for a place on the bench with Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham both plying their trade under Steven Gerrard.
It seems that the only way is up for Kelly right now, the Scotland U21 international establishing himself as arguably the brightest goalkeeping talent north of the border right now.
