The Fulham and Leeds United youngsters are heavily tipped to make the step up to the Premier League in the summer.
It’s not often two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs are going head-to-head for the signature of a Championship left-back. However, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor could begin next season in a Liverpool shirt, does this give Tottenham Hotspur a clear run at Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon?
The highly-rated Taylor, who had been an ever present in Leeds’ starting XI until suffering an injury recently, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and is out of contract at the end of the season with no indication yet of an extended stay.
The Yorkshire Evening Post report that there is a high chance that he could make a substantial leap up the footballing ladder by moving to Liverpool with The Reds badly in need of a left-back with James Milner continuing to deputise for the erratic Alberto Moreno.
And this could hand an opportunity to Tottenham. The Daily Mirror reported last month that Liverpool were in pole positon for the outstanding 16-year-old, though Spurs were also tracking his progress extensively.
Sessegnon, a remarkably mature and well-rounded footballer considering his tender years, has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season at Fulham and the Daily Mirror report that the Championship promotion chasers will demand at least £15 million for his signature.
However, Spurs, who are making a habit of targeting impressive young players and building for the future, will surely have no qualms about paying such a fee for the country’s most in-demand teenager.
And, if Taylor moves from Leeds to Liverpool, they would appear to have a great chance to get their man.
