Liverpool, Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus are all tracking Roma’s Serie A revelation Alisson Becker but is he the best in the world?

Roma's Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson throws the ball during the UEFA Champions League Group C football match AS Roma vs FK Qarabag on December 5, 2017 at the Olympic stadium in Rome.

Brazil might be famed for boasting some of the most exciting, artistic attacking players in world football. But, ahead of the 2018 World Cup, the nation of Jogo Bonito are arguably enjoying the services of two of football’s best goalkeepers.

Ederson has been a revelation since becoming Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City number one, while it is a credit to Alisson Becker that Roma have not missed Wojciech Szczesny one jot since he moved to Juventus in the summer.

2018, then, could be a breakthrough year for Alisson. Not only is he set to start between the sticks for Brazil in Russia, it appears that a huge move is on the cards come the end of the season.

As reported by the Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has grown tired of the Simon Mignolet versus Loris Karius debate and is keen to bring a genuinely top class goalkeeper to Anfield.

Roma, however, want a world record £45 million, although with Real Madrid, PSG and potentially Juventus all looking for a new shot-stopper, do not expect Eusebio Di Francesco’s side to be short of offers.

And according to Roma’s one-time goalkeeping coach Roberto Negrisolo, Liverpool and co should not think twice about paying such a huge fee for this rising star.

“This guy is a phenomenon. He is the number one of number ones. He is the Messi of goalkeepers, because he has the same mentality as Messi,” Negrisolo, who played an important role in Alisson moving to the Stadio Olimpico from Internacional in 2016, told Il Romanista.

“He is a goalkeeper who can mark an era. There is absolutely no comparison with Gianluigi Donnarumma, because Alisson is extraordinary.”

It is fair to say few people spoke this highly of Karius or Mignolet when they moved to Liverpool from Mainz and Sunderland respectively.

Although after Real Madrid missed out on Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa, and with David de Gea seemingly content at Old Trafford, Klopp faces a major challenge luring Alisson to Anfield. After all, not many players can resist the lure of the Bernabeu.
