Andy Robertson of Liverpool or Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney? Scotland manager Alex McLeish has a really tough decision to make.

Typical. There is an argument to be made right now that the two most naturally gifted footballers in Scotland’s squad are fighting for exactly the same position.

Andy Robertson vs Kieran Tierney is an argument that is likely to rumble on for years to come and, if Friday’s friendly defeat against Costa Rica is anything to go by, the Liverpool man has the advantage over his Celtic counterpart right now.

Featuring in a left-wing back position well suited to his attacking strengths, Robertson was arguably the best player on the pitch in McLeish’s second managerial debut in charge of his country, producing a series of superb crosses that Scotland’s strikers proved unable to convert.

And the latest in a remarkable run of displays from the Liverpool man has the Anfield faithful portraying Robertson as ‘streets ahead’ of Celtic’s much-coveted 20-year-old.

Now, Tierney is one of the most in-demand young British players right now with the Daily Record claiming that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of a player rated by Celtic in excess of £20 million.

This, for the record, is double what Liverpool paid Hull City for Robertson in the summer of 2017, and perhaps until Tierney proves himself in the self-proclaimed best league in the world, Liverpool fans will have the upper hand in this debate.
