Liverpool’s Premier League star Gini Wijnaldum was on the losing side as Holland played Germany in a dramatic Euro 2020 qualifier.
Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has admitted that he was hugely disappointed to see Holland throw away a point in Sunday’s dramatic European Championship qualifier at home to Germany on Sunday, while speaking on his official Twitter account.
The Netherlands have been a team transformed under Ronald Koeman, phasing out veterans like Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben before introducing Frenkie De Jong, Matthijs De Ligt and Steven Bergwijn to the international stage.
But Holland tasted defeat in their second Euro 2020 qualifier last night, Hoffenheim left-back Nico Schulz scoring a dramatic 90th-minute winner at the Johan Cryuff Arena in Amsterdam.
The defeat was painful enough but, to make matters worse, it meant that Holland’s heroic comeback from two goals down meant absolutely nothing when the dust settled.
Wijnaldum, who played the full 90 minutes and set up Memphis Depay’s second-half equaliser, could hardly hide his frustration.
The Liverpool ace was anonymous in the first half against Joachim Low’s former World champions but was much more impressive after the break, having been pushed into a more advanced role by Koeman.
