Liverpool are bookies favourites to sign Nathan Redmond, but they don’t need him.

Liverpool are the current bookies favourites to sign Southampton winger Nathan Redmond.

SkyBet have the Reds at 5/1, ahead of West Ham at 13/2.

Redmond is a talented winger but he is not one who Liverpool need to splash out on.

He was signed as Sadio Mane’s replacement by Southampton, who sanctioned the Senegalese winger’s sale after clinching a deal to buy Redmond from Norwich City.

Redmond scored seven goals last season but only managed to provide one assist for Claude Puel’s side.

This demonstrates he still has some improving to do, and Liverpool do not need to pay over the odds for a player who cost £11 million last summer.

Liverpool are focused on signing Mohamed Salah from AS Roma, with The Independent reporting the Egyptian is flying in to seal his move.

Redmond would struggle for first team football at Anfield, and would be better served staying with Southampton at present.

The last thing Liverpool need too is another battle with Southampton, who will not want to lose a player they signed only last summer.

After their botched pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, it is hard to see Liverpool pushing hard to sign Redmond, a player who it is hard to claim that they really need.
