A new goalkeeper appears to be at the top of Liverpool’s wishlist heading into the summer transfer window.

But Ross Sinclair, the teenage shot-stopper from St Johnstone, is unlikely to hog the gossip column headlines quite like links with Allison Becker, Jack Butland and co.

According to the Daily Record, Liverpool have taken the 17-year-old on trial and he is already seizing his opportunity with the Premier League giants, saving a penalty to cap an impressive debut against the Panjab FA for the Reds’ U23 side.

And Sinclair’s St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright obviously believes the young shot-stopper is destined for great things.

“We have high hopes for Ross. He has work ahead of him but will develop into a top-class goalie,” Wright, who recommended Sinclair to Liverpool, told the Daily Record.

“Without doubt he’s the best keeper of his age in this country. Ross is a good size, technically very good and is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

“You could class him as having a man’s body but maybe a boy’s strength. He has only just turned 17 and will develop physically.”

St. Johnstone Manager Tommy Wright looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park at on February 5, 2017 in Perth, Scotland.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will offer him a deal but, if they do, Russell should be confident that Anfield is the right place for him to develop.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has shown a refreshing willingness to give youth a chance, emphasised by the fact that 19-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold appears sure to start the Champions League final against Real Madrid a week on Saturday.
