Premier League Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool are both reportedly looking at Porto’s Primeira Liga centre-back Eder Militao.

Eder Militao has come a long way since he joined FC Porto from Sao Paulo in the summer.

From a little known defensive talent to a Brazilian international and one of the most highly-rated young centre-backs in European football, reports from his homeland had even claimed that Everton had identified the 20-year-old as a future star.

UOL Esporte claimed the Toffees sent scouts to watch Eder, who moved to Porto for a bargain £3.75 million.

Now, with Everton looking shaky at the back during a run of one win in eight Premier League games under Marco Silva, and with Kurt Zouma only on loan from Chelsea, a defender with Eder’s talent and potential would be well received.

Everton certainly need to reinforce their back line more than Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who have conceded just ten Premier League goals all season.

But this has not stopped Jurgen Klopp’s side from joining the race for Eder, according to the Sun, despite the £42.5 million release clause in his contract.

Defence has been arguably the strong point for Liverpool this season, although Virgil van Dijk could perhaps do with one more potential partner with neither Dejan Lovren nor Joel Matip really doing enough to convince.

Imagine if Eder moves to Anfield and undergoes a Van Dijk-like transformation under Klopp. That would not reflect well on Everton.
