Liverpool and Manchester City are going head-to-head for the Premier League and Champions League this season.

John Aldridge has hit out at Liverpool’s Premier League title rivals Manchester City in quotes reported by the Irish Independent, claiming they are merely a ‘minnow’ compared to his former club.
City have come on leaps and bounds under Pep Guardiola and are currently in the midst of competing for a historic ‘quadruple’.
They have already won the League Cup, reached the FA Cup final on Saturday and are arguably the favourites for both the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool are standing in their way at home and abroad, however. And it is no surprise who Aldridge, a Merseyside local who scored 63 goals for the Reds in the 1980s, wants to see come out on top – and not just for footballing reasons.
“For City to become one of the true giants of the modern game, they need to win the Champions League on multiple occasions. That’s because they are still essentially a club that got lucky when a ‘sugar daddy’ rolled in to bankroll some temporary success,” Aldridge said.

“When you see empty seats at the Etihad Stadium for home games and read stories suggesting that they struggled to sell out a relatively modest allocation of tickets for last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final, it serves as a reminder that this is a club that is still a minnow compared to some of their domestic and European rivals.”
Aldridge’s comments will surely serve to stoke the fire ahead of what will be a thrilling end to the Premier League season.
Liverpool, who have not won England’s top flight since Aldridge was a striker for Real Sociedad, are two points clear in first place, although City are breathing down their necks with a potentially decisive game in hand.
