Terence Kongolo was by far Huddersfield Town’s most impressive performer in their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Liverpool might have cruised to a 3-0 win away at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night but the best defender on the pitch was wearing blue and white rather than deep red.
Terence Kongolo showed why he was only recently viewed as one of Europe’s most promising centre-halves with a solid display in David Wagner’s back three. His reading of the game was superb and his tackling a perfect combination of aggression and composure.

To make his display even more impressive, this was only Kongolo’s first Premier League start after joining Huddersfield on loan from Ligue 1 champions Monaco earlier in the month.
And while Liverpool have not exactly ignored their defensive problems this month, splashing out a world record £75 million to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, the Anfield faithful are wondering why a bargain deal for Kongolo was not under consideration, too.

The former Feyenoord talent, who starred alongside long-time Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij at the 2014 World Cup, struggled to make an impression during six months at Monaco but appears to have all the attributes of a solid Premier League centre-back.
So Liverpool should keep a close eye on his performances at the John Smith’s Stadium with Van Dijk alone not enough to solve Liverpool’s Achilles heel.
