Liverpool have reportedly offered around £20m to sign Domagoj Vida from Super Lig giants Besiktas but could they beat rivals to the punch?
Liverpool are not the only Premier League side interested in signing Croatia’s £26 million-rated World Cup finalist Domagoj Vida. Far from it.
Milliyet claimed on Tuesday that Liverpool have sent club officials to Istanbul in order to negotiate a deal with Besiktas for the 29-year-old centre-back. This comes after Fanatik pointed out that they had seen a £20 million bid rejected by the Super Lig giants.
Bringing Vida to Anfield is proving to be far from straightforward, particularly as Sabah have stated that West Ham United had matched their bid.
Although Liverpool might have a trump card up their sleeve. According to the Sun, Besiktas want to sign the Reds’ unsettled shot-stopper Simon Mignolet as a replacement for Fabricio, who signed for Fulham this week.
The report adds that Jurgen Klopp will let the Belgian international go after the signing of Alisson Becker, which probably pushes Mignolet down to third in the pecking order.
And Besiktas’ interest gives Liverpool an opportunity. They could sweeten the deal for Vida and blow West Ham out the water by offering Mignolet in exchange.
It is likely that this would have to be a cash-plus-player deal, however, with Liverpool valuing Mignolet at around £12 million and Besiktas demanding about £26 million for Vida. But The Reds could use this opportunity to land the Croatian star for a knockdown fee.
